The Next Generation Preschool Math project (NGPM) is a 4-year, $3.5 million NSF-funded research project that focuses on the development and integration of digital math content in the preschool classroom. Under this grant, the following will be produced and tested:

1. Eight math iPad apps designed for preschool classroom use

2. Non-digital activities to be used throughout the day and accompany the iPad apps

3. A Teacher’s Guide with tracking of children’s learning progress in the math apps

Together with the Center for Children and Technology at EDC in New York and SRI International in California, WGBH (Boston, MA) will seek to answer the question: Can engagement with activities in a media-rich curriculum supplement improve low-income children’s early learning of number and equipartitioning?

Some of the characters and art assets seen in the games were developed as part of a co-production between WGBH Educational Foundation and Out of the Blue Enterprises, LLC, under separate funding from PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
